Camping in Rishikesh with White World Expeditions
Camping in Rishikesh is the easiest way to swap the busy town for the Himalayan foothills for a night or two. We run our own forest campsite, Camp White World Expeditions, about 21 km north of Rishikesh at Goolar on Pawki Devi Road, below Thaat Village. It sits in a forest valley a 15-minute (700 m) walk from the road, with 25 Alpine deluxe tents, a dining area, a bonfire ground and a short trail to the Hidden Waterfall (open in Google Maps).
For guests who prefer a room to a tent, our cottage stays at Wondrous Camp in Kathya Badal village, Shivpuri (about 16 km from Rishikesh), offer deluxe and AC cottages with a swimming pool. Every stay can be paired with Ganga rafting, so you can raft by day and sit by the fire at night.

Is Camping Allowed in Rishikesh? What You Should Know
Yes, but where you camp matters. Beach camping on the Ganga between Rishikesh and Kaudiyala is controlled by National Green Tribunal (NGT) rules: it is allowed only at approved sites, at least 100 metres back from the river, and unauthorised beach camps along the Shivpuri stretch have been removed in past crackdowns.
Best Camping Areas Near Rishikesh: Shivpuri, Goolar & Beyond
There are no tent camps inside Rishikesh town; camping in Rishikesh really means the river and forest valleys 12–40 km upstream along the Badrinath highway. Each area has a different feel:
Shivpuri (about 16 km)
The best-known camping area in Rishikesh, close to the Shivpuri rafting start point. Lively at weekends, with riverside views and quick access to Ganga rafting and bungee jumping.
Goolar valley (about 21 km)
Where our own forest camp sits, off Pawki Devi Road. Quieter than Shivpuri, with a waterfall trail, village walks and darker skies for stargazing.
Marine Drive & Kaudiyala (26–40 km)
Further upstream, with fewer camps and more forest. Good if you want a longer drive into the hills and a full-day rafting trip.
Hill camping (Kunjapuri, Kanatal)
Cooler mountain camps above the valley, best for sunrise views; combine with a Kunjapuri sunrise hike.
