Andaman & Nicobar Islands – A Tropical Paradise in the Bay of Bengal
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located to the east of the Indian mainland, lie beautifully scattered in the Bay of Bengal, floating in splendid isolation. These picturesque islands were once part of a hill range that extended from Myanmar to Indonesia, giving them their unique landscape of rolling hills and lush greenery.
This stunning archipelago consists of approximately 836 islands, islets, and rocky outcrops, most of which are covered with dense rain-fed evergreen forests. The region is rich in natural beauty, featuring thick forests, pristine beaches, and an incredible variety of exotic flora and fauna.
Most of the islands (around 550) belong to the Andaman Group, of which 28 islands are inhabited. The smaller Nicobar Group includes about 22 main islands, with 10 islands inhabited.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are separated by the Ten Degree Channel, a stretch of sea approximately 150 kilometers wide, which forms a natural boundary between the Andaman and Nicobar island groups.
With their untouched natural beauty, tropical forests, and diverse wildlife, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands offer an unforgettable destination for travelers seeking nature, adventure, and tranquility.
