Born and raised in the Himalayan region of Tehri Garhwal, Bheem Singh Chauhan developed a deep connection with nature and the rivers of Uttarakhand from an early age. After completing his graduation from HNB Garhwal University, his passion for adventure sports led him to pursue a career in the emerging white water rafting industry in India.
What began as a trainee position with one of India’s first rafting companies has evolved into a distinguished career spanning two decades. Today, Bheem is not only a highly skilled river guide but also an operations manager, trip leader, and entrepreneur who has trained countless young guides and contributed significantly to the growth of adventure tourism in Rishikesh.
Started professional rafting career as a trainee guide with one of India’s pioneering rafting companies. Received hands-on training in paddling techniques, river reading, raft handling, guest management, and safety procedures on the Ganga River under supervision of senior trip leaders.
Progressed to Head Guide position, leading day trips and multi-day river expeditions on major Indian rivers including Ganga, Alaknanda, Mahakali, Bhagirathi, Kameng, Indus, and Zanskar. Also led trekking expeditions in the Himalayas.
International breakthrough: Worked as professional rafting guide on the legendary White Nile River in Uganda, guiding guests through Grade IV and V rapids. Gained valuable exposure to global rafting practices, big-water river systems, and international safety standards.
Led rafting operations in Iran for four consecutive seasons (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). Explored and commercially developed new rivers including the Haraz River, Armand River, Karaj, Sefedrouth, and Zayandrodh. Played a key role in establishing commercial rafting in Iran.
