HISTORY

White World Expeditions Welcomes to India's remote North-eastern Frontier. A land that has remained hidden and inacessible to outsiders for a long time

The Kameng River (previously named Bhareli River, now called Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh and Jia Bhoreli in Assam) in the eastern Himalayan mountains, originates in Tawang district (Arunachal Pradesh) from the glacial lake below snow capped Gori Chen mountain (6,300 m) on the India-Tibet border and flows through Bhalukpong circle of West Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh and Sonitpur District of Assam. It is one of the major tributaries of the Brahmaputra River, joining it at Tezpur. The Kameng forms the boundary between East Kamemg District and West Kameng Districts and is also the boundary between the Sessa and Eaglenest sanctuaries to its west and the Pakke tiger reserve to the east. The Dafla Hills are east and the Aka Hills (home of Aka tribe) are west of the Kameng River.

Kameng has been accessible for river rafting and kayaking only recently and an expedition on this river will take you through lush rainforests that surround some of the finest white water in the country and world. The North Eastern part of India receives a large amount of water and this reflects in the amazing whitewater the rivers offer here. The experience of the good rapids on the river is only surpassed by the verdant beauty that surrounds it. We also get the opportunity to witness the rich tribal culture and interact with the indigenous tribes.

ITINERARY

Itinerary 12 Days 11 Nights
Day 1: Delhi – Guwahati
Fly from Delhi to Guwahati (Assam). Overnight stay in a Hotel.

Day 2: Guwahati – Bhalukpong
Drive 5 hours to Bhalukpong (Arunachal Pradesh). Overnight stay at a camp.

Day 3: Bhalukpong - Seppa
Drive 6 hours to Seppa. Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 4: Seppa – Marjangla
Today we drive again for 4:15 hours to Marjangla and set up camp. Get the raft & the gear ready for the expedition. We can walk down the beach and enjoy the great view of this river. Dinner around the campfire is filled with conversation about the coming days on the river.

Day 5: Marjangla – Riga Village Camp
The expedition on the river starts with a few easy rapids and as we drift through the thick forest we get to encounter some good Grade 4s. We set up camp late afternoon on a sandy beach after a good exciting day on the river.

Day 6: Riga Village – Vasang Village
Today we paddle through a gorge which provides some stunning views. Paddle bouncy grade 3 rapids which are the highlight of the day as a lot of small streams & rivers come in adding volume. As we leave the first gorge, we float through the Seppa town to pitch camp on a sandy river beach. Spectacular views of streams falling into the Kameng surround us and we go to bed dreaming of the river and what the next day holds.

Day 7: Vasang – Confluence Camp (Below Bana village)
The day starts with an easy float section as we go away from the villages into the remote gorge of the Kameng, where there are good grade 3-4 rapids before we reach camp at the rivers confluence.

Day 8: Layover Day
Layover day. One can choose to wake up late, laze around the camp or take a nature walk & explore the remote gorge around, sunbathe, bird watch, try a hand at fishing or just lie on the beach & read a book.

Day 9: Confluence – Stamped Camp
This is a great section of the Kameng River as the Bichom River joins it, increasing volume adding punch to the rapids. Here we encounter grade 4 rapids. We scout the river and run it accordingly. Set up camp in the afternoon and rest our aching muscles. This is the most remote section on the Kameng River.

Day 10: Stamped Camp – Below Dam site camp
The day on the river has a grade 4 section with long rapids. We raft past the dam site with some amazing ‘full on’ whitewater. Set up camp by a rapid tonight to celebrate the last evening around the campfire.

Day 11: Dam site Camp – Bhalukpong
The last day on the river has a lot of grade 3-4 rapids & a stunning gorge. Raft to Bhalukpong – the takeout point where the river slows down as it enters the plains. Overnight stay at a hotel.

Day 12: Tezpur – Guwahati - Fly Delhi
We drive back to Guwahati & fly back to Delhi with some great life time experience and memories of the Kameng River.
